Children practise six discussion skills: Instigate, Build, Challenge, Clarify, Probe and Summarise. These help pupils start conversations, explore different viewpoints, ask thoughtful questions and express their ideas clearly.

Children develop six important roles: Starter, Builder, Challenger, Listener, Questioner and Summariser. Each role encourages pupils to take responsibility for helping conversations become more thoughtful, inclusive and purposeful.
